Shrubs usually stellate pubescent. Leaves variable, always with one or more prominent nectaries on the lower midrib. Pedicels without articulation, short. Flowers solitary or glomerulate in leaf axils or forming terminal racemes. Epicalyx present of 5 lobes, alternating with calyx lobes. Calyx 5-lobed, with one costa per lobe, cupulate. Corolla rose or lavender. Staminal column with anthers scattered and apically 5-dentate. Styles 10, slender. Fruits schizocarpic. Mericarps 5, lobed, the lobes convex, with prominent barbed bristles or warty appearance, indehiscent; seeds solitary, glabrous. Endoglossum absent.
