Shrubs or more commonly trees, often evergreen, the young branches lepidote to glabrate, the older trunks with fissured bark. Leaves minutely gland-dotted (especially on the veins), with a nectariferous zone near base of the midrib. Pedicels without articulation. Flowers large and showy, solitary in the leaf axils. Epicalyx of 3 ligulate bracts. Calyx truncate, minutely lepidote, calyx costae absent. Corolla yellow with a maroon spot at base, gland dotted. Anthers scattered along staminal column. Style stout, clavate. Fruit a capsule, indehiscent, leathery. Endoglossum absent.
