Decumbent perennial herb. Leaves ovate, becoming 3-lobed, often asymmetrically 2-lobed. Inflorescence terminal, a head-like group of 2-4 flowers. Epicalyx present, 10 linear setose bracts, exceeding the calyx. Calyx fused for ½ its length, with 3 costae per lobe, margin ciliate. Corolla lavender, 3-4 times the length of the calyx. Staminal column included, filamentiferous at apex. Styles 10, stigmas capitate. Fruits schizocarpic. Mericarps 5 with slender, retrorsely barbed, very long apical spine that loops back on itself, 1-seeded. Endoglossum absent.
