Erect or decumbent herb, subshrub or shrub, pubescent or hirsute and sometimes viscid. Leaves petiolate (sometimes subsessile), ovate, cordate, dentate; stipules minute, subulate, caducous. Flowers solitary in leaf axils, or borne on several-flowered peduncles. Epicalyx absent. Calyx lobes lanceolate or ovate, without costae. Corolla white. Staminal column included, filamentous at apex. Styles 10-14, stigmas capitate. Fruits schizocarpic, oblate, inflated, pendulous. Mericarps 10-14, pubescent or hispid, with fragile walls, dehiscent, 1-3-seeded. Endoglossum absent.
