An erect, well-branched shrub 1 -1.5 meters tall. Leaves less than 4 cm long, discolourous. Stipules ligulate, 1-2 mm wide. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils. Pedicels subequal to the subtending leaf. Epicalyx present, 3 bracts large, broadly cordate-ovate, entire, concealing the calyx. Calyx costae absent. Corolla red (drying purplish), petals biauriculate at base, these densely bearded. Staminal column subequal to the petals, filamentiferous at apex. Styles 13-14, purple. Fruits schizocarpic. Mericarps 13-14, single-seeded, indehiscent, circular and dorsally rugulose. Seeds reniform, glabrous. Endoglossum absent.
