Decumbent herb from a fleshy rootstock. Leaves more or less orbicular in outline, usually 3-7-lobed, 2-8 cm long. Calyx ofte with purple markings, scabridulousFlowers solitary in leaf axils. Epicalyx of 3 linear to subulate bracts or absent. Petals burgundy (sometimes drying purple), distally fimbriate, margin of claw densely hairy. Androecium included, anthiferous at apex. Styles and mericarps 14-22. Stigmatic zone introrsely decurrent. Fruits schizocarpic.Mericarps indehiscent, single celled, horse shoe shaped, obtusely beaked, dorsally rugose. Seeds solitary, glabrous. Endoglossum absent.
